The shift toward using jewellery for a truly personal statement has been a long time coming. There’s a renewed interest in pieces that feel intentional, whether it’s a custom design or something that speaks to them. To help us get inspired, we asked Vancouver-based creator Peggy Tsai to share her most treasured memory of jewellery, what trends she’s excited to try and how she likes to style her jewellery pieces.

What is your first memory of jewellery?
It was 1994, the year I immigrated to Vancouver with my family. I remember my last day of school, my grade 2 teacher invited my mom and I over to her home for dinner. After dinner as we were saying our goodbyes, she handed me a mahogany jewellery music box. I carefully opened it and a small ballerina popped up in the centre and started twirling to the tune of Fur Elise. There was a heart-shaped gold locket with a photo of my teacher and I inside. I still treasure it to this day.

What kind of jewellery trends are you most excited to wear/try this season?
I’ve been loving the link styles and custom personalized jewellery. Bangles have become one of my recent favourites and pearls will always be a classic.

How do you like to style jewellery with your looks (day or night)?
I tend to gravitate towards pearl or diamond earrings whether in stud form or dangling form. For bracelets and necklaces, I like thinner chains as you can dress them up or down. Sometimes a nice watch goes a long way and it’s the only accessory you need.
